Welcome to the home of Walls, an application that is built for all you guys out there with huge monitors, and a lot of them.
The App was born, like every good App, out of need. Over the time as a Developer and Gamer I have acquired three monitors, all with different resolution and sizes.
I always wanted to have one Wallpaper span across all these monitors and the monitors should function like a window to this wallpaper. So the gaps between the monitors, their relative position and the resolutions of the monitors should all be factored in.
Well, I did not find a good and easy solution on the net.
And so Walls was created.
This also led to the idea of the full stack of everything needed from the ground up without any legacy costs. And also use this to check out new and fun technologies.
This is all the stuff that I used to build this Site:
- I acquired wallsexperience.com over at Hover.com which made the best impression and also give you free WhoIs privacy without extra costs
- The website itself is hosted as static storage site on Azure (which costs pennies)
As everything has to be dumb, I use Hugo to statically create this website. I did not use any premade templates but built one from the ground up with
- MdBoostrap as the general CSS/jquery framework
- Fontawsome for all the nice images and icons
- Google Fonts for the web font this site uses
- And of course Visual Studio Code as the editor
And this is the stuff I used for the App:
- The free Visual Studio Community Edition
- For general theming and looks I use the fantastic Material Design for XAML Toolkit
- Everything else hand coded
You may have noticed that there is no paid or commercial product in this tool chain. The times have really changed in the last 10 years (thanks to Android I guess).
I chose to put the App in the Windows Store as there is still no other viable and free platform for selling Windows Desktop Apps on the Net.
